Paul has been practicing yoga in Rugby since 2005. He originally took up yoga for the health benefits, but soon realized that yoga is more than just a physical experience. It has helped Paul in many ways with his physical, mental and spiritual well being, and soon embraced yoga for what it is – a holistic health system. So in 2011 with encouragement from his teachers, he decided to start a Teacher Training diploma course with the British Wheel of Yoga. He has a first Aid certificate and full insurance. Paul is also registered with REPS (The Register of Exercise Professionals) at level 3. Paul has brought his extensive knowledge of Yoga to develop Yoga for Backs. This is a 6 week ongoing course in conjunction with Clifton Road Chiropractics, to help you with any back problems you might have.

Yoga for Backs
Yoga is mindful movement with the breath, so that you feel the movement and can relax the muscles and joints, increasing strength, stamina and suppleness.
The NHS recommends Yoga for back problems and a large study carried out by the University of York, funded by the Arthritis Research UK and run by the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Paul’s training body and the Iyengar Yoga Institute has proven how effective Yoga can be in helping people with bad backs.
If it is your first time please come early so that we can have a talk and fill out any forms. Avoid eating a heavy meal two hours before the class. You may have a light snack 30 minutes before the start. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. The class will be practiced in bare feet: socks can be worn at the beginning and end of the class if you want to. Bring water with you. I supply all the equipment, but If you have a mat, please bring it with you. Please switch mobile phones off as they will distract other students.
I will have a 5 minute talk with you about your back issues, to ascertain the best possible course of action that would be beneficial for you. I will also get you to fill out a health questionnaire; again this will help me to determine what poses will be of help to you. In the hour we will be doing some gentle movements with the breath, building suppleness in the body and spine which will increase your body awareness and improve your posture. We will be also doing some activities to build up core strength, as well as some sitting and standing posture/alignment work and some mild stretches. We then finish with a final relaxation.
The NHS website says “Yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. There's some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.”
